She Walks the Air II
Video art by Ellen Oliver
2017
She Walks the Air II started the intermedia and multi-author aspect of the series. Ellen Oliver, a colleague and a co-young artist in residence at Bearnstow, and I collaborated on the site that She Walks the Air I took place, and created a video art. It was not an archival shoot, however. Another artist took the lead, reinterpreted the material, and made sense of it in a different medium. Shaking up the relationship between art and artist brought the work a tremendous amount of joy and freedom. It defied “ownership.” It also defied a certain assumption of linearity and singularity. This “alternative” mode of relating felt akin to how my world works. Especially in reimagining the space between the “she” walking in the air like walking on the road versus the “she” walking the air like walking the dog in the attempt to reclaim, and empower the “she,” this big bang felt right. She Walks the Air, from this point, deliberately decided to never land, and keep iterating with different collaborators, and in constant intermedia adaptation.
